Ruiz Morcuende, Federico (1890-1948)

Spanish archivist-librarian, philologist, and literary critic.
He studied Languages and Literature at the Universidad Central de Madrid and collaborated with the Centro de Estudios Históricos (CEH) until October 1, 1927.
By Royal Order of July 26, 1913, he joined the bein Corps of Specialist Archivists, Librarians and Archaeologists, with a position at the archive of the Delegación de Hacienda in Burgos. In 1915, he was transferred to the National Library of Spain, where the new board of trustees appointed him secretary in 1930. He held this position for two years before being transferred to the archive of the Ministerio de Estado. A month later, he was promoted to the position of Head of this Center. His work was recognized in 1934 and 1935 with two official decorations.
He continued in this role as director during the Spanish Civil War, and in 1942, he was awarded the commendation with plaque of the Order of Isabella the Catholic and in 1943 he was appointed Commander by Number of the Order of Civil Merit.
He also held the titles of senior teacher, academician of the Real Academia de Historia de Valladolid, and of the Academias de Bellas Artes y Ciencias Históricas de Toledo (1920). He taught a course on Spanish literature at the University of Cambridge (1927-1928) and gave several lectures on this subject at the Universities of Oxford and London.
When he passed away in early 1948, he was still head of the Archive of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
