History:

Spanish genealogist, politician and maestrante. III Count of Castelo. Son of the politician José Bermúdez y Fernandez de la Puente and Carmen Varela Bermúdez, countess of Ramires. He graduated in Law at the University of Santiago de Compostela. Due to the political career of his father, he moved to Madrid, where he usually took part in intellectual conversations with the Álvarez Quintero brothers, Agustín de Foxá, Julio Cola, Eladio Rodriguez and he worked at the Sorolla workshop, producing several paintings. In 1902 he was admitted in the Real Maestranza de Caballería of Ronda.

In 1906, she got married with Consuelo González Álvarez, daughter of the Cuban national representative of Reformist Party and owner of the tobacco company Henry Clay Francisco González Álvarez. They had 5 children: Consuelo, María del Carmen, Francisco de Paula, who inherit the title of his father, Jaime and Luis Bermúdez de la Puente González.

In 1911, he established the society of the Mondariz-Vigo tram and founded the Society of Iron Foundries of Marin in Pamplona, of which he was councillor until 1919. Furthermore, he managed the General Society of Trams of Galicia and created the poultry farm of Ramiranes, where they taught how to use incubators and the reproduction and feeding of poultry. Regarding genealogy, his research allow him to document his descendent until the first Count of Castelo, thus, he applied the restoration of the title in 1919, that was accepted in 1923. In 1925, he was appointed replacement of the Deputy Mayor of Madrid, and in 1927, he was elected Deputy Mayor of the quarter of Cuatro Caminos, but he resigned in 1928. During this period, he was president of the Centro Gallego de Madrid.

Context:

Entre los años 1939 a 1944 acudió al Archivo Histórico Nacional (AHN) de Madrid para investigar en sus secciones de Consejos, Órdenes Militares e Inquisición.

Sus estudios genealógicos en su archivo familiar, parroquias gallegas y manuscritos le permitieron, además de rehabilitar el título de Conde de Castelo, publicar en 1930 un extenso trabajo sobre los descendientes del condestable Pedro de Castilla titulado "La casa de Castro y sus descendientes" y otro trabajo que no llegó a publicar titulado "Don Fernando de Castro y Portugal, conde de Trastámara, Lemos y Sarria".
