Spanish archaeologist and museum curator.
He was born in Granada on 20th January 1908. He studied a degree in Philosophy and Arts at the University of Granada and graduated with an extraordinary award in 1928. Jesús continued and completed his studies at the School of Arabic Studies and took classes in History of Art and Archaeology. He obtained his PhD at Central University with his thesis entitled "Casas moriscas de Granada y Marruecos." In 1929, he started as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts of the University of Granada. Subsequently, during the Spanish Civil War, he passed the competitive exam for a chair at a High School, but they annulled the results. Nevertheless, he taught for several years at the Ángel Gavinet High School.
Between 1940 and 1947, he was a teacher of Art and Archaeology at the School of Arabic Studies. Furthermore, he worked as an assistant professor for the chair of History of Art until his retirement. He was appointed provincial commissioner of excavations and worked as a spokesperson in different commissions linked to historical heritage.
In 1942, he passed the competitive exam for the Cuerpo Facultativo de Archiveros, Bibliotecarios y Arqueólogos and was the first director of the Archaeological Museum of Mérida. The following year, in 1943, he achieved transfer to the Archaeological Museum of la Alhambra, and, when the former became the National Museum of Hispanomuslim Art, he was appointed director. In 1965, he boosted the creation of the magazine Cuadernos de la Alhambra, where he published an amount of his research. He died in Granada on 13th September 1986.
El 8 de octubre de 1940 acudió al Archivo Histórico Nacional (A.H.N.) de Madrid para investigar en documentación perteneciente a la sección de Clero.
