History:

Spanish writer and historian. Daughter of Juan Antonio de la Vega and María Josefa Martínez Losada. She was raised in a liberal environment, and she got married when she was very young with general Francisco Espoz y Mina, who played an important role in the Peninsular War. She exiled herself with her husband in France for defending her liberal ideas. When her husband died and with the return of the progressives, she returns to Spain, where in 1837 she was granted the lifelong title of countess of Espoz y Mina. She was named governess of Isabella II of Spain and her sister the Infanta María Luisa, working from 1841 to 1847. At the same time, she was named Camarera mayor de Palacio (First Lady of the Bedchamber). Her life in the court allowed her to tell the historical events of the moment, and she spent a large part of her time gathering together and completing her husband's memoires. When she finished her chores in the court, she went back to La Coruña, where she carried out an important activity linked to the world of charity until she died.
