She was a Catalan aristocrat and the consort Baroness of Maldà i Maldanell. She was the youngest daughter of Josep d'Amat i de Junyent, Marquis of Castellbell, and his wife Anna de Rocabertí i Descatllar, baroness of Pau. She was born in Barcelona in 1476. At only 20, she married her cousin Rafael d'Amat i de Cortada, the son of the coronel Antoni d'Amat i de Junyent, her uncle. This couple, who lived in the well-known "Casa Cortada" or "Palau Cortada" in Pi Street in Barcelona, had 8 children. Only Maria Escolástica d'Amat i d'Amat, future Marchioness of Castellbell due to her marriage to Manuel d'Amat i de Peguera, Rafael, José María, Cayetano, Maria Teresa and Maria Felipa survived their childhood. These last two women were nuns at the monastery of Santa Maria de Jonqueres. In 1766, the King Charles III attributed the title of Baron of Maldà i Maldanell to her husband. Maria Esperança d'Amat i de Rocabertí died of smallpox in Barcelona on the 19th of January 1788.
