History:

Gottlieb, Albert was born on the 28th of May 1909 in New York. He was a Jewish member of the International Brigades. He has high school education and worked as postal worker, book and shoe salesman. He was member of the Communist Party and since 1926, of the Young Communist League. He sailed from the United States on the 4th of June 1937 aboard the "Statendam" and arrived in Spain on the 20th of June 1937.He served as Sergeant with the Special Machine Gun Company in the MacKenzie-Papineau Battalion of the 15th International Brigade. His last unit was the MacKenzie-Papineau Battalion. He returned to the United States on the 20th of December 1938 aboard the "Ausonia". During the Second World War he served as civilian defense industry plant worker. He died on the 3rd of August 2000.
