Berkowitz, Norman Nathan was born on the 17th of December 1913 in Boston, Massachusetts. He attended to St. Johns University for 2 years. He was a department store employee and member of the Department Store Union, and he joined the Young Communist League in 1935 (probably in 1936). He sailed from the United States in April 1937 aboard the "Queen Mary" and arrived in Spain on the 5th of May 1937. He served with the Washington Battalion in the 15th International Brigade and in the Company 3 of the Lincoln-Washington Battalion, with the rank of Private. He was wounded in action on the 23th of July 1938 in the Ebro Offensive. He returned to the United States on the 20th of December 1938 aboard the "Ausonia". He went to the Second World War with United States Army as infantry with the rank of Technical Sergeant. He died on the 30th of July 2010, in Arden, Buncombe, North Carolina.
