History:

Irving Mitchell was born on November 7, 1911 in Bronx, New York. He worked in a restaurant. Since July 1936, he was a member of the Communist Party of the United States of America.

Mitchel sailed on January 20, 1937 aboard the “Berengaria” and arrived in Spain on February 1, 1937. He left Spain but he changed his mind later and returned on August 1, 1938. He served with the Company 3 of the Lincoln-Washington Battalion of the 15th International Brigade as Private. He returned to the US on December 20, 1938 aboard the “Ausonia”.

During the Second World War, he served with the US Armed Forces.
