History:

Payne, Perley Baldwin Jr. was born on the 13th August 1914 in Campbell, California. He attended to the San Jose City College for 2 years. He worked as agricultural worker, cannery worker and truck driver. He joined the Young Communist League in 1936 and the Communist Party in February 1937. He sailed from the United States on the 2nd of February 1938 aboard the "Washington" and arrived in Spain on the 20th of February 1938. He served with the 15th International Brigades as stretcher bearer in the 15th Sanitary Corps and from July 1938 as Private in Company 4 and the Special Machine Gun Company of the Lincoln-Washington Battalion. He served at the Ebro Offensive. He returned to the United States on the 15th of December 1938 aboard the "Paris". He went to the Second World War with the United States Navy in Honolulu, as Seaman 3rd Class. He died in June 2002.
