History:

Thomas Leroy Lloyd was born on October 4, 1908 in Steubenville, Ohio. He attended college for 1 year and studied art. He was single and worked as a steel worker and driver. Since March 1937, he was a member and a unit organizer of the Communist Party of the United States of America and also a member of the Communist Party of Spain (PCE in Spanish).

He sailed on October 18, 1937 aboard the “Aquitania” and arrived in Spain on November 9, 1937. He served with the Transport Unit of the Company 1 of the Lincoln-Washington Battalion of the 15th International Brigade as driver with the rank of Private. He was at the front at the retreats and Ebro Offensive. He returned to the US on December 15, 1938 aboard the “Paris”. Back home, when the in Second World War started, Lloyd fought with the US Armed Forces.
