History:

Halonen, Oiva Ronald was born on the 15th of April 1912 in Chisholm, Minnesota. He was Finnish American. He has finished High school education. He worked as carpenter and driver. He joined the Communist Party on the 15th of February 1934 and the Young Communist League in 1933. With 26 years old, he sailed from the United States on the 9th of October 1937 aboard the "Vollendam" and arrived in Spain on the 24th of October 1937. He served with the Machine Gun Company of the Lincoln-Washington Battalion of the 15th International Brigade during the Retreats. On the 2nd of May 1938, he was transferred to the 35th Division of the Special Machinegun Company. Later, he returned to 15th International Brigade. He returned to the United States on the 15th of December 1938 aboard the "Paris". In the Second World War, he worked on a Civilian shipyard in Seattle. He worked with Bob Reed on the Pacific Northwest Volunteers Project. He died on the 20th of March 1981 in Seattle, Washington.
