History:

She was a Spanish librarian and she studied Philosophy and Literature at the University of Salamanca as well as her sister María Luisa. In fact, both of them were Miguel de Unamuno¿s students. After earning their degrees, they moved to Madrid and they studied to pass the public examination to join the Corps of Archivists, Librarians and Archeologists. Both of the sisters would succeed, joining the Corps respectively in 1921, Ernestina, and 1922, María Luisa. In Madrid, they lived in the ¿Residencia de Señoritas¿ and in the "Instituto Internacional", where they had direct contact with members of the Generation of 27. Ernestina asked for a leave of absence and she rejoined the Corps again in 1934. She was assigned to several libraries of the Central University and, in the end, to the "Escuela Especial de Pintura". After the Spanish Civil War, the authorities began proceedings against both of the sisters and this was the cause of their absence from the Corps. Ernestina remained in Spain and she was reintegrated to the Corps in 1966, right before she retired.
