History:

Spanish farmer, administrative, and politician. When he was 14, he started working in the field in his hometown of Benissa. He moved to Valencia in 1965, where he was administrative in a car spare parts company. In 1973 he created, with other colleagues, a cooperative group that included the sectors of housing, consumption, production, education, and credit. In Benissa he had been part of the Working Brotherhoods of Catholic Action (Hermandades Obreras de Acción Católica) and of the Rural Youth of Catholic Action (Juventudes Rurales de Acción Católica). In 1968, still in Valencia, he was linked to Promotions and Readings (Promociones y Lecturas/PROLESA) and was part of the writing of 'Notebooks for Dialogue' in the Valencian Country. In 1969 he joined Comisiones Obreras (CCOO/Workers' Commission), holding positions of responsibility in the metal sector. In December 1974 he joined the Unión General de Trabajadores (UGT/General Union of Workers) and the Spanish Socialist Worker's Party (Partido Socialista Obrero Español/ PSOE) in Valencia. Since 1975 he was secretary of Administration and union secretary of the PSOE Provincial Executive Committee, member of the UGT Provincial Committee, Secretary of Formation of the Provincial Federation of the Industry of Wood, Construction and other UGT related areas. Member of the UGT National Committee between 1975 and 1978. His trade union and political activity caused him several arrests between 1968 and 1976. In the 1977 general elections of June he was elected deputy for Valencia, being reelected uninterruptedly in 1979, 1982, 1986, 1989, and 1993. First, he was councilman of the Benissa Town Council (1979-1986) and then mayor (1986-1987). From 1979 to 1993 he was Agriculture Secretary of the PSPV-PSOE Executive Committee. In 1989 he returned to be Town Planning Councilor of Benissa and later a member of the Alicante Provincial Council and deputy mayor of Benissa from 1999 to 2003.
