History:

Spanish politician, professor, and lawyer. He was born in Estepa (Seville) on 16 April 1944. His most outstanding position was the presidency of the Junta de Andalucía between 1979 and 1984. He graduated in Law from the University of Seville in 1967, where he taught Labor Law until 1976. The year he began teaching, he joined the Partido Socialista Obrero Español (PSOE/Spanish Socialist Worker's Party), and the following year he founded a labor office in Seville, along with Felipe González and other budding political figures. He was a deputy after the 1977 elections during the Constituent Parliamentary term and he was re-elected in 1979. Rafael Escuredo was one of the main participants who negotiated the conditions of the Andalusian pre‑autonomy. On 2 June 1979, he was elected president of the Junta de Andalucía. He held this position until 1984; since then he has worked as a lawyer.
