Mexican actor, scriptwriter, and film director. He is known as one of the great directors of the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema. He began his career in the film industry working as a translator for several studios, such as Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Columbia Pictures. In 1930 he returned to Mexico, where he worked as a scriptwriter on radio programs. In 1934 he wrote the script for "La isla maldita", the first Mexican film in color, and in 1937 he directed his first feature film, "Almas rebeldes". Throughout his career he won a lot of awards, including eight Ariel awards. He directed his last film in 1985, "Lázaro Cárdenas".
