History:

He was the Deputy Mayor of the city of Havana and a representative. He was also a Royal Ensign of the Town council and a Clerk of the Court of Havana. He was the son of Juan Tomás de Jáuregui and María Ana de Aróstegui. He was one of the most important landowners of his time, with a fortune based on the possession of a lot of wit, lands and cavalries. He maintained a close friendship with Francisco de Arango y Parreño and collaborated with Alexander von Humboldt in the elaboration of his Political Essay on the island of Cuba. He was elected representative of Havana in 1810. He played a prominent role in the Cádiz Cortes (parliament) where he became vice-president and president. His speeches focused on several aspects. In the economic field he was very involved in the discussions on the abolition of slavery, a purpose to which, at first, he did not oppose but he considered that it should be done with temperance and trying to avoid situations like the one lived in the island of Haiti. He defended some changes in the political-administrative organization such as, for example, the creation of two new administrations on the island. He participated in the discussions about the abolition of the Inquisition and about the Constitution of 1812.

After the return to the throne of King Fernando VII and the restoration of absolutism in 1814, he returned to Cuba. He married María Dolores de Aróstegui in 1824.
