History:

Spanish historian, archivist, and bibliophile.

He was born in Madrid in 1884. He studied at the Escuelas Pías de San Antón and the Instituto del Cardenal Cisneros before graduating from the Escuela Superior de Diplomática. He then joined the Corps of Specialist Archivists, Librarians and Archaeologists, with his first assignment at the Archivo del Reino de Valencia. From there, he moved to the Archivo Histórico Nacional, and also worked at the Biblioteca de la Facultad de Derecho de Madrid and the Archivo del Consejo de Órdenes Militares , ultimately settling in his final position at the Biblioteca de la Real Academia de la Historia. A great bibliophile, he owned an important collection of bindings and was the founder of La Arcadia, a monthly gathering devoted to bibliophilia and gastronomy. He also donated part of his library to the Palacio de Liria. He was an academician of the Real Academia de la Historia and the Hispanic Society of America, among other institutions. He served as director of the Instituto Luis de Salazar (CSIC) and as secretary of the Instituto de España, where he was also a procurator in the Spanish Parliament. He passed away in Madrid in 1958.
