History:

Spanish General Captain of the Army and Regent of the Kingdom.

He was fourteen years old when he was part of the marine guards in Cádiz, and of the Order of Saint John. He took part in a lot of battles: he was part of the squadron that was in the siege of Gibraltar, in the expedition of Argel and the expedition of Malaspina, he fought in the Battle of Cape St Vincent and in the battle of Trafalgar (where his actions were considered heroic), and in the defence of the Cádiz' port against the British soldiers. He got progressively promoted in rank, he was Major General in the French-Spanish alliance squadron, and he was who commanded the Neptuno. In the Peninsular War he fought in the Battle of Espinosa de los Monteros, where he was injured. He became General Lieutenant, he was designated General Captain, and political leader of Cádiz. He married Isabel Roca de Togores Valcárcel, daughter of the Pinohermoso's Count.

The implementation of absolutism caused his confinement in Alicante's castle. He was freed in 1820, during the Trienio Liberal (Liberal Triennium), when he was deputy in the Ministry of War with Argüelles. When Ferdinand VII returned to Spain, Valdés was condemned to the gallows, so he had to go into exile to England. He did not come back until the death of Ferdinand VII, when he recovered his ranks and properties, he was recognized as general captain of the Army with the position in the department of Cádiz, and he was named the Kingdom's hero.
