Lawyer, minister. Son of Pedro Sorela (or Sciorela) -natural of San Pedro del Valle (Sardinia) and belonging to one of the most honorable families on the island- and of María Jerónima Carcaño (or Calcaño or Calcagno) from Villarino - born in Cádiz on the 4th March 1758, but of Genoese parents and ancestors, from Arenzano-, who married in Cádiz on February 18, 1775 and had, in addition to Luis, four other children: Sister Manuela, Pedro Rafael, Gertrudis and María Dolores.
Luis Sorela studied at the University of Seville, where he received his doctorate in Economic Law and Law.
He married in Coín on October 11, 1817 with María Joaquina Mauri, daughter of Juan Mauri and María Salva.
Lawyer of the Royal Councils, he developed a brilliant career in Administration. In 1821 he was already an official of the Ministry of Finance and with Fernando VII, and in succession to José Canga Argüelles, he was interim Minister of Finance three times for days: between March 2 and 4, 1821, between March 11 and January 24, 1822 and between January 30 and February 28.
He was, in addition, protector of the Montepío Board of widows and orphans of Lottery employees in 1822 and director of the Bulls and Penalties of the Chamber and of the Registry Law between 1822 and 1823, general director of Public Debt, president of the Board of Liquidation of the Debt of the State, member of the Council of His Majesty, Secretary of His Majesty with the exercise of Decrees.
When he held this last position, he was distinguished, by Decree of December 12, 1830 (file approved on January 29, 1831), as a supernumerary knight of the Order of Carlos III.
Likewise, he was in possession of the Grand Cross of Isabel la Católica.
