History:

Greek-born soprano and singing teacher with Spanish nationality.

She was born in Athens (Greece), the daughter of a Greek father and an Italian mother. She studied singing in Paris and Milan. At her first known performance in Madrid on 15 November 1924, she sang the Mozart opera "Cosi fan tutte" with Aníbal Vela under the baton of Enrique Fernández Arbós. She appeared at the Palau de la Música Catalana on December 19 of that same year, performing "Tres arias" (1923) by Joaquín Turina. A year later she participated in the premiere of the opera "La Virgen de Mayo" by Federico Moreno Torroba at the Teatro Real in Madrid, and in the premiere of "Romance de la hija del rey de Francia" by Conrado del Campo at the Teatro de la Comedia on March 30, 1924. She also premiered the version for voice and orchestra of "Canto a Sevilla" by Joaquín Turina on May 3, 1926. On this occasion she was accompanied by Margarita Xirgu and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid at the Teatro San Fernando in Seville. Turina dedicated two works to Crisena Galatti: the first was "Corazón de mujer" (1926), which premiered on February 15, 1928 at the Teatro de la Sociedad Filarmónica de Oviedo; and the second was "Vocalizaciones" (1932).

Galatti accompanied the pianist Joaquín Nin during one of his Paris concerts in 1926 and sang at the charity ball for the victims of the hurricane that had devastated the island of Cuba. The Orquesta Sinfónica, conducted by Enrique Fernández Arbós, and the tenor Miguel Fleta also participated in that event. In 1929 she performed at the opera festival held in the Liceo de Barcelona. The following year, she sang "Automne malade" by Ernesto Halffter with the Orquesta Clásica de Madrid at the Teatro de la Comedia in Madrid. An admirer of Manuel de Falla, she requested his permission to sing "Psyché" (1924) conducted by José Lassalle at a concert held on March 7, 1930. She lived in Spain for ten years, during which she worked as a singing teacher. In 1933 she moved to Manila (Philippines), and two years later she began to offer gesticulation, phonetics and singing lessons. She also gave concerts as a soloist or accompanied by her student Rosa Arenetes.
