Spanish archivist, librarian, and teacher. Director of the Archivo General de Indias.
He was born in 1896. Member of the Corps of Specialist Archivists, Librarians and Archaeologists. He began his professional career at the National Library of Spain (1925-1926) and then moved to the Archivo General de Indias in Seville (1926-1936), of which he was director from 1932 to 1936.
At the start of the Spanish Civil War, he was assigned to the Archivo General de Indias (Seville). On October 29, 1936, he was transferred as a librarian to the Biblioteca Provincial y Universitaria in Seville and as an assistant at the Instituto Antiguo in the same city. The Comisión Depuradora Provincial de Sevilla ordered his suspension from employment and salary. On April 18, 1939, the Comisión Superior Dictaminadora declared his reinstatement without administrative sanction. He had already been purged in June 1938 and was confirmed in his position on two occasions.
He was director of the Biblioteca Provincial y Universitaria de Sevilla, where he retired in 1966 at the legal retirement age. Author of: "Catálogo de manuscritos de América" and "Catálogo de Incunables de la Biblioteca Universitaria".
