Spanish biochemist, pharmacist and professor.
Born in 1912, in a family of doctors.
He studied baccaulaureate in the Escolapios of Madrid, assciated centre to Cardenal Cisneros high school. He received his doctorate in Pharmacy in Madrid's Central University (UCM) with the thesis named "Investigation of the vitamins by chemical methods", directed by the doctor Gregorio Marañón, in 1934. Later on, he furthered his studies in London and Paris (1934-1936).
He started his teaching career as a temporary assistant professor and in charge of the chair of Biologic Chemistry in the UCM, replacing the teacher Giral when he was named minister of the Marina in 1936. In 1940, he obtained the chair by position of Static and Dynamic Biochemistry in the Pharmacy Faculty of the UCM, where he remained until his retirement in 1982. He combined teaching with the position of director in the Institute of Phisiology and Biochemistry and investigators of the Institute of veterinary Investigations, both organisations belonging to the Superior Council of Scientific Investigations.
He was a member in the Royal Academy of Pharmacy (1941) and of Medicine (1991), and received the great cross of Health and the Alfonso X the Wise.
He married María del Carmen Díaz-Hernández Agero, with whom he had 4 children.
He passed away in the Spanish capital in 2005 and is buried in Béjar (Salamanca)
