He was a Spanish teacher, entomologist and speleologist exiled in Mexico. He was educated in the Committee for Extension of Studies and Scientific Research (JAE). He was the son of Ignacio Bolívar and Fermina Pieltain Bartoli. During the Spanish Second Republic, he worked in different jobs related to education and health service under the government of Manuel Azaña, becoming his secretary when he occupied the Republic's presidency in May 1936. He maintained this charge during the Spanish Civil War. After the Republican defeat, Cándido exiled in Mexico with his parents and son, José Ignacio Bolívar Goyanes. So, he incorporated the College of Mexico created by Daniel Cosío Villegas in 1939. He worked as a teacher at the School of Biological Sciences, located at the National Polytechnic Institute, and later, as a director of that educative institution's entomology laboratory. The academic career of Cándido Bolívar in Mexico was linked to the Autonomous National University of Mexico. This institution gave him an honorary doctorate.
