History:

Chesler, Hyman Frank. (Chester) was born on December 17, 1910 in New York City. He worked as seaman and taxi cab driver. Since February of 1936, he was a member of the Communist Party of the United States of America (CPUSA).

Chesler volunteered for Spain and sailed on February 20, 1937 aboard the” Ile de France” and arrived in Spain on March 10, 1937. He served in the Mackenzie-Papineau Battalion of the 15th International Brigade and later in the Auto Park. From July of 1938, he was part of the Lincoln-Washington Battalion, rank sergeant. He returned to the US on December 20, 1938 aboard the “Ausonia”. In March of 1943, he enlisted in the US Army and fought in the Second World War.

He died on November 1990, in Encino, California.
