Olson, Leonard Evan was born on the 7th of January 1902 in Virginia, Minnesota. He attended Virginia High School through the 9th grade, later he apprenticed with a carpenter. He worked as seaman and automobile worker. He joined the Communist Party in 1936. He sailed from the United States on the 19th of January 1938 aboard the "President Roosevelt". He served with the Company 3 of the Lincoln-Washington Battalion of the 15th International Brigade as Machine Gunner. Then, he was transferred to the MacKenzie-Papineau Battalion in the Machine Gun Company during second half of the retreats. He served at the Ebro Offensive as corporal. He returned to the United States on the 20th of December 1938 aboard the "Ausonia". He went to the Second World War as Shipyard worker and in the Merchant Marine. He died in May 1998.
