Radio Independent Spain - Pyrenean Station (22 July 1941- 14 July 1977) is a broadcasting station created by the Communist Party at the request of Dolores Ibarruri from Moscow. The station was well-known as "La Pirenaica" (The Pyrenean), since it was rumored to have been broadcasted from a place near the Pyrenees. As the German troops were advancing towards Moscow during World War II, the radio station was relocated to the city of Ufa (Republic of Bashkortostan) and to Bucharest (Romania) in 1955. The last program was broadcasted from Madrid in conjunction with the first meeting of the Cortes (14 July 1977), held to address the Constitution of 1978, since "its duties were fulfilled". Ramón Mendezona Roldán (1913-2001), alias Pedro Aldamiz, was the fifth and the last Chairman of Radio Independent Spain.
