History:

Spanish politician, lawyer, and professor of the Complutense University of Madrid. XI Baron de Carondelet. Deputy of Union of Democratic Centre (Unión de Centro Democrático/UCD) for Madrid between 1977 and 1978, during the constituent parliamentary term; for the Balearic Islands between 1979 and 1982 and of Coalición Popular (People's Coalition) for Madrid between 1986 and 1989. Minister for Education and Science (1977-1979), Justice (1979-1980) and Culture (1980-1981). He served as UCD Secretary-General from 1981 until the dissolution of the party in 1983. In 1996 he was appointed president of the Council of State. In 1954 he participated in the creation of the Spanish Association of European Cooperation. Cavero formed part of its leadership. In 1962 he was confined to the Isle of Hierro for his participation in the Munich meeting. During a brief period, he was part of the Steering Committee of the clandestine Partido Popular Demócrata Cristiano (Christian Democrat People's Party), later moving to the Democratic Left, from which he split in 1976. He was co-founder and Secretary‑General of Partido Popular Demócrata Cristiano and later of the Democratic Party, until its integration in UCD. Then, he joined the Democratic Party and was elected vice president in 1985. In 1991 he joined the Partido Demócrata Popular (Democratic Popular Party). He died in Madrid, on 25 December 2002.
