Spanish politician and lawyer, being the first president of the Spanish Government in democracy between 1976 and 1981. PhD in Law.
Adolfo Suárez was a significant figure within the recent history of Spain, since along with Juan Carlos I, he played a leading role in the Spanish transition from Franco's dictatorship to the constituent democracy in two years and a half. Under his government, he elaborated and passed the referendum of the 1978 Constitution.
Suárez was the Minister General Secretary of the Movement between 1975 and 1976. In democracy he was one of the founders of UCD and later on, he founded CDS.
The king Juan Carlos I conferred Suárez the title of duke of Suárez for all his work within Spain. Suárez was married with Amparo Illana and had five children: Amparo (Máriam), Adolfo, Laura, Sonsoles and Javier. He died in Madrid in 2004.
