History:

Spanish politician and jurist. Lawyer of the Council of State. He is one of the so‑called 'fathers of the Spanish Constitution of 1978'. He has a degree in Philosophy and Literature and a PhD in Law from the Central University of Madrid. Later he expanded his studies in Philosophy at the Universities of Louvain and Paris and in Comparative Constitutional Law at the European Universities of Oxford, Luxembourg, and Geneva. In 1966 he won a position as lawyer of the Council of State.

During the democratic transition he was elected deputy for Madrid, in the Grupo Parlamentario de Unión de Centro Democrático (GUCD/Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Centre Union), in the Constituent Parliamentary term (1977‑1979). He was a member and speaker of the Constitutional Commission of the legislature body that drafted the constitutional text of 1978. He was re‑elected deputy in parliamentary terms I, II, III and IV. In 1976, he was appointed Technical Secretary‑General of the Ministry of Justice, position from which he took part in the elaboration of the Ley de Reforma Política (Political Reform Law) and the ley Electoral (Electoral Law).

In 1982 he left Unión de Centro Democrático (UCD/Union of Democratic Centre) and joined the Alianza Popular (AP/People's Alliance). He was elected deputy of AP and the Partido Popular (PP/People's Party) in the 1982, 1986 and 1989 elections.

Miguel Herrero de Miñón is a corresponding member of the Academia Nacional de Ciencias Morales y Políticas (National Academy of Moral and Political Sciences). He has been appointed Doctor Honoris Causa by the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED/ Spanish National University of Distance Education) in 1991, Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) in 2017, and corresponding member of the National Academies of Law of Buenos Aires (2017) and Córdoba (2017).

Prolific writer, regular contributor to the media and active political lecturer, he has, among other distinctions, the Command of the Order of the Civil Merit for his work in the drafting of the constitutional and electoral drafts for the independence of Guinea; with the Grand Cross of Raimundo de Peñafort and with the Grand Cross of Isabel la Católica, for his work as a member of the 'Constitutional Report'. Married to Cristina Jáuregui Segurola.
