Created on the 23rd March 1937, it was part of the I, V and XV Army Corps during the subsequent reorganizations of the Republican Army. It was operational in the fronts of centre, Valencia and Murcia, Aragon, and Catalonia. This division was headed by the general Carlos Walter and the major of militias Pedro Mateo Merino. It took part in the battles of Brunete (Madrid), Belchite (Zaragoza), Teruel, Aragón, Ebro and Catalonia. It published the magazine "The Reconquest".
