History:

He was an industrial engineer and socialist politician. He was also a member of the "Sociedad de Oficios Varios"* at the UGT** and the Castellon Socialist Group since 1918. He married María del Carmen Nieves Cebrián Fernández Villegas. As his brothers-in-law, Julián Besteiro and Luis de Zulueta, Amadeo Ribó Simont was also a teacher in the Free Educational Institution. He was president at the Socialist Provincial Federation during the Civil War, president of the Chamber of Commerce of Castellón and mayor of Castellon between June 1937 and May 1938. He worked also as a delegate at the International Federation of Trade Unions and the Labour and Socialist International in Onteniente (Valencia). He was exiled in Mexico, where he arrived on board the Nyassa in May 1942. In June 1945, his family started to get reunified. First, his daughter Carmen arrived on the 21st of June 1945 through the "Mérida", coming from La Habana. The rest of his children and his wife, Carmen, arrived one month later, also from La Habana. One year later, his sister, María Luisa, and his maternal uncle, Antonio Simont Guillén, a significant set designer and stage director, joined their family. The last-mentioned figure wanted to success in the Mexican world of cinema. Amadeo Ribó Simonat died in Mexico DF on the 11th of August 1964. In the "Diccionario Bibliográfico del Socialismo Español" (Bibliographic Dictionary of Spanish Socialism), it appears that he died on the 9th of May 1964. However, in the 75th notive of the Former Students Corporation of the Free Educational Institute of the "Instituto-Escuela" and the Students' Residence in Madrid exposed that Amadeo Ribó died on the 11th of August 1964. It also explained that his brother-in-law, Luis de Zulueta, died in New York several days before of the death of Concepción Largo Caballero, on the 2nd of August, and the Mexican diplomat Isidro Fabela on the 12th of Austu 1964. It is also shown the recently death of Alberto Jiménez Fraud in Geneva, the director of the Students' Residence since its foundation in 1910.
