Institutional History / Biography:

Juan de la Cierva (1895-1936) was an Spanish engineer, pilot and inventor worldwide known as the "autogiro" inventor. During twenties decade he began to develope a rotating wing aircraft, as a hybrid between plane and helycopter. During its first flight (in 1923), autogiro traversed 200 metres. In 1924, it reached 100 Km/h. In 1926, supported by James George Weir, a Scottish industrialist and pilot, he founded the Cierva Autogiro Company in the United Kingdom, for developing the aircraft, which continued evolving through Europe and the United States and reached a big success at the beginning of the thirties. But Juan de la Cierva death in 1936 stopped researchings about this invent.

2. Quiñones de León answers Juan de la Cierva: he excuses himself for not being able to welcome the pilot at Le Bourget, as he is out of France and he designs lieutenant colonel Juan Seguí Almuzara as his representative during this event (1928-09-17th).
