History:

Spanish painter, son of painter and decorator Juan Antonio Benlliure Tomás (1832-1906) and Angela Gil Campos (1829-1907), and brother of painters Blas, José and Mariano, who was sculptor. His artistic career was at the bgeinning overshadowed by the ones of the his brothers'. He lived with them in Madrid and Rome after studying in the Fine Arts Academy of San Fernando in Madrid, and was keeper of the frescos of the Royal Chapel of St. Anthony of La Florida at the same time.
