Spanish professor of Paleography that exiled after the Spanish Civil War. He was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 1893. He studied Laws, Philosophy and Arts in the "Universidad Central de Madrid", garduating in 1913. He started to work as assistant teacher and obtained a PhD in 1914. After working in different institutions in 1926, he held the professorship of Paleography in the "Universidad Central de Madrid". In 1934, he was designated Members of the "Real Academia de la Historia". Regarding his political activity, he joined the Republican Action, party in which he run for member of the Parliament in 1931 and 1933. When the Spanish Civil War started, he moved to France and then to Mexico in 1938 as Vice-Consul, and he had to manage the evacuation of the children refugees better known as "Niños de Morelia", the creation of the "Casa de España" and the arrival of the first refugees to the country. In 1939, he was part of the governing board of the "Comité Técnico de Ayuda a los Refugiados Españoles" (CTARE). Since 1939 until 1958, he was teacher of Paleography and Latin Language and Literature in the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). When he returned to Spain in 1963, he obtained again his prfessorship of Paleography in the Complutense University of Madrid, but he did not definitely settle in Spain until the death of Franco in 1975. He died in las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 1980.
