History:

Professor, palaeographer and historian.

She was born in Oviedo in 1912. Bachelor in Philosophy and Arts from the Central University, in the 1930s, she was a student and an assistant teacher of the professor of Palaeography and Diplomatics Agustín Millares Carlo. She collaborated with him on almost every project that started before the Spanish Civil War, among them, the course of Palaeography taught in the National Historical Archive. In the summer of 1933, she took part in the "Crucero Universitario por el Mediterráneo" organised by the dean of her faculty of that time, Manuel García Morente, in cooperation with Antonio García Bellido.

There, she met her husband, the Catalonian architect Juan Capdevila Elías (1910-2013), a member of the Unidad de Fortificaciones y Obras of the Generalitat of Catalonia. She took his surname to use it in her publications, which she is commonly known as her real name was María Teresa Bermejo Zuazua instead of María Teresa Bermejo de Capdevila. She moved to Catalonia for her marriage. In 1937, she was appointed teacher of the Manuel Bartolmé Cossio School-Institute in Sabadell. In 1940 appeared in the list of the competitive exams for the Cuerpo Facultativo de Archiveros, Bibliotecarios y Arqueólogos. Nonetheless, that year, her husband and she went into exile through Perpignan. They both began a journey through Cannes, Paris, Marseille, Lisbon, Cuba and Venezuela, where they finally established until 1964 when they returned to Spain. In Venezuela, Teresa contributed to the National Historical Archive and other administrative archives of the country. She was in charge of a great deal of work on the publication, transcription and analysis of documents of the colonial period, for example, the records of cabildo de Caracas. In addition, María Teresa was the author of several publications that revolved around diverse aspects of Venezuelan history. She was also interested in this topic after coming back to Spain. She died on 12th June 2015 in Madrid.
