Spanish jurist and professor of Political Economy. He was the son of the doctor Plácido Álvarez-Buylla Santín and María de la Concepción González-Alegre. He was married to Carmen Lozana de la Concha and they had four children: Adolfo, Benito, Plácido y Vicente.
In 1865, he started his academic career studying the Baccalaureate of Arts in the Senior High School of Oviedo. He studied the Baccalaureate in Jurisprudence and the degree in Law, with a specialisation in Civil and Canonical Law, at both the University of Oviedo. Moreover, he acquired knowledge in Philosophy and Letters at the University of Oviedo and the Universidad Central in Madrid. He carried out his doctorate studies at the Universidad Central in Madrid and at the University of Salamanca.
His academic career began in 1874 as an assistant for the Faculty of Law at the University of Oviedo. He got the chair of Universal History, Political Economy and Elements of Political Economy and Statistics at the University of Valladolid. Indeed, he was appointed professor of Elements of Political Economy and Statistics at the University of Oviedo. Moreover, he also carried out activities as a secretary and dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Oviedo.
