Spanish chemist. Daughter of the politician Francisco José Barnés Salinas and Dorotea González de la Calle. Marriedto Francisco Giral González, son of José Giral, with whom she went into exile to Mexico after the Spanish Civil War, arriving in Veracruz aboard the Flandre.
She had studied pharmacy in the Faculty of Sciences of the former Universidad Complutense of Madrid, graduating in 1932 with an extraordinary award. She was a teacher at the Instituto-Escuela from 1931 to 1933. She worked in the National Institute of Physics and Chemistry. In 1936, she obtained the chair by public examination of Organic Chemistry applied to Pharmacy at the University of Santiago de Compostela. She went into exile to Mexico City, where she joined her husband in the laboratory of the National Polytechnic Institute. There they discovered together the formula for gyralgenin (the Giral's have a pin with the molecule).
