Vicenta Alonso Cortés was a Spanish archivist. She earned her doctorate in Philosophy and Literature, specializing in History at the University of Valentia and Madrid. In 1954, she joined the Corps of Archivists, Librarians and Archeologists and she was assigned to the General Archive of the Indies (1954-1957). Later on, in 1962, she was transferred to Huelva and she worked in the "Archivo de la Delegación de Hacienda"

and in the Public Library. From 1973 to 1984, she worked as an archives¿ general inspector. In 1984, she took charge of the Consejos Suprimidos del Archivo Histórico Nacional and she developed a guideline for the section. She was the creator of the Course in Organization and Administration of Historical Archives (1973-1992) thanks to the agreement with OEA and the Spanish Foreign Office and Ministry of Education and Science. This course trained the actual leaders of the Ibero-American system of archives. Vicenta Cortés Alonso retired in 1990.


El Archivo y la Biblioteca de Vicenta Cortés Alonso se conservan en el Archivo Histórico Nacional de Madrid y fueron donados por la archivera al Estado en el año 2014, depositándose en la institución madrileña. Ocupan 70 ml. la biblioteca y 50 ml. el archivo.
