History:

Spanish writer, poet, illustrator and politician. He belonged to the Generation of ’27. Active member of the Spanish Communist Party, he went into exile after the civil war. He lived in France until 1940. Under the protection of Pablo Neruda he travelled to Chile, Argentina and Italy, where he established his residence from 1963 onwards. He went back to Spain in 1977, obtaining the deputy record at the democratic elections that year. He won the Miguel de Cervantes Prize in 1983. Married with María Teresa León, he had a daughter, Aitana.
